Hearts in Chaos--chapter 13The Long Days of Winter

Lightning woke up the next morning and croaked when she tried to groan. Surprised, she sat up and turned her focus inward, examining her throat. The phlegm had returned, jamming up her esophagus partway down; she cleared her throat, finally having to empty it out entirely just to be able to breathe. Her joints ached slightly and her forehead felt a bit warm while her fingers felt cool. Trying not to be concerned, she climbed out of bed and put on her uniform, tossing her nightclothes on the unmade bed. Her chocobo was on the floor; she picked it up and set it on the pillows, right side up, where it could gaze at the wall with its button eyes.
Noting it was only six-thirty, she then went to the bathroom, which, mercifully, was empty, and finished washing up within fifteen minutes. When she came back out, Caius was there at the bar as usual, looking more awake than she felt, and nodded a greeting.

Hearts in Chaos--chapter 12Cocoon and Pulse
Autumn transformed into winter. Serah began to visibly develop, gaining a swollen belly as the baby continued to grow inside her. Snow, still scrambling to help Rygdea coordinate with the pillar settlement and several other places, including what remained of settlements on Cocoon, grew frustrated with his inability to spend time with her and his child. Serah continually assured him everything would be fine, even as she began to look into a position at the upcoming women’s security regiment. Rygdea brought up the idea of a militia that had jurisdiction in every area, but each branch would function independently, meaning that they would simply be homogenous within their structure but not necessarily to the outside observer.
Then he dropped the news on Snow that, yes, there would be an official New Bodhum Security Regiment that would ultimately report to the central government but operate under the growing Hearts in Chaos--chapter 12 by ~GenesisArclite

Hearts in Chaos--chapter 11Windows to the Soul
The days passed slowly, autumn fading into winter, time feeling as though it were crawling along. The NORA household grew quiet as the only inhabitants became Serah, Snow, and Lightning, plus the calico feline Snow and the occasional neighborhood cat looking to play with her. With the weather regularly unpleasant, there were very few visitors to the household otherwise. Rain regularly swept the beach. Caius often secluded himself in the inn, becoming very quiet whenever Snow did see him, and for a while Lightning didn’t bother him. This went on for a week or two, and generally Caius turned up once a day as usual, though he didn’t say much. Rather, he seemed to be thinking, and Snow had to wonder what about.
Nearly three months after he and Serah had gotten married, he noticed his wife suddenly being much quieter than before, though he sensed it was not in a bad way. In addition to the stringy muHearts in Chaos--chapter 11 by ~GenesisArclite

Hearts in Chaos--chapter 10Promised Eternity
For the first month since the founding of the provisional government, things went smoothly. It had yet to have an official name, but as far as organization went, everything was going fairly well. The settlement at the base of the pillar continued to grow every day. The security regiments grew bigger, and when Rygdea showed off intelligence reports at the morning meeting, Caius saw images of the pillar settlement bristling with construction equipment, indicating explosive growth as the Gran Elevator grew closer to completion. At first, the stated goals of the new government were widely accepted: unifying the Pulse and Cocoon people, stabilizing society, and building a new future in the wilds of Pulse. No one said anything about it.
A week after Caius had made the deal with Lightning to someday have their “talk”, the first incident of this new arrangement occurred and caused a stir. Living in the shHearts in Chaos--chapter 10 by ~GenesisArclite

Spotlight on Animation: Caius BalladNormally I don't use journals as actual blogs, but places to rant. The animation of Caius Ballad, however, has been on my mind pretty much since I bought and started playing Final Fantasy XIII-2. If you've played the game, seen a couple of trailers, etc., feel free to comment. I'm curious to know how others feel about my opinion here.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, the latter of which was released in NTSC regions in early 2010. Two years later its sequel was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The focus of this blog, Caius, is the game's antagonist-antivillain.
Computer animation is a constantly evolving art. Usually it seeks to strike a happy medium between the cartoonish and the realistic, which can make older works going for the latter quite jarring to modern viewers. XIII-2 and Caius listed among 'best of the year'In the latest (January) issue of GameInformer, there is the annual "Top 50 Games of [year]" article. This year's article opens with Final Fantasy XIII-2 on page 48. The game is noted for its monster collecting/controlling element, "customization", "generous post-game content", and combat system. The game is also noted as having a confusing story.
On page 50 is the "Top 10 Villains" list with Caius listed as number nine: "Players spend Final Fantasy XIII-2 fixing time paradoxes caused by an enigmatic man manipulating the fabric of the universe. Your party's hunt to track down Kaius [sic] and put an end to the chaos is a valiant one, but appears futile when this villain finally reveals his hand." That his name is misspelled "Kaius" bothers this fangirl to no end.
On page 56, Mog is listed as the number one dork: "Any good will moogles might have had from previous Final Fantasy games is torpedoed as soon as Mog's stupid mouth opens. Saying "kupo" at the end of every sXIII-2 and Caius listed among 'best of the year' by ~GenesisArclite

After watching the currently-uploaded endings, I think this is what will happen:
There will be nine endings in all. This is the "default" ending you get for beating the game without all the fragments. There will be seven real-time cutscene "endings", and together with this ending are called "Paradox Endings".
The ninth ending is shown by seeing all the paradox endings and collecting all the fragments in the game, which will be the "True" Ending, which is similar to this one but everyone lives.
fragments are things you need find throughout the game. you do quests and go back in time to defeat paradoxs and reset the timeline to unlock aff13-2 ending confusion (minor spoilers) edit by ~lightis101

For some, Caius left a strange impression when he was first shown in the January 2011 announce trailer for Final Fantasy XIII-2. After all, he was primarily purple with feathers in his hair. We didn't even hear his voice until about six months later, much less know what his name was. Remember when he was just "the rival" or "mysterious man"? Remember when we were trying to guess what he would sound like, or what his personality would be like, or what his storyline purpose was? After all, at first, he was only shown in Valhalla - no one really knew that he would be turning up in the main game for a while. We didn't even really know he would be an antagonist, just "the rival" to Lightning.

With this in mind...

...what was your initial reaction to Caius when he was first shown?

...what kind of person did you think he would be?

...what do you think of his (admittedly rather unique) character design?

...what're your favorite elements of it?

...if he turned up in Lightning Returns, do you think he should keep his armor, or show up in a new outfit? After all, it's not like Noel has a new one (that we know of), but then again, his old outfit could just be a placeholder.

Also, who's ready to have a release date for LR already? And the X|X-2 remaster?
